The Prime Minister of Georgia, Giorgi Gakharia, began to hold meetings of the coordinating council to combat the spread of the coronavirus online. This was reported on April 7 by the press service of the Georgian government.
Starting today, the interdepartmental coordination council for the control of coronavirus will operate via videoconference.
It is reported that this decision was made to avoid the gathering of people. Representatives of the Georgian parliament and the president of the country will also take part in the meetings online. After the meeting, briefings will be held.
Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia held a video conference with European Commissioner (EU) Oliver Virgelis on enlargement and the neighbourhood policy.
Gakharia thanked the European Commissioner for EU assistance and noted the «critical importance» of such support for Georgia. The Prime Minister also assured the interlocutor that Georgia remains a reliable partner of the European Union.
It is worth noting that at the end of March, the head of the EU mission in Georgia, Carl Hartzell, promised for the European Union assistance in the fight against coronavirus in the amount of € 70 million.
In Georgia, as part of measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus, a restriction on assembly has been in effect since March 31. It is forbidden to gather in groups of more than three people.
