Four NATO frigates enter port of Poti

Four warships of NATO’s Second Permanent Naval Group (SNMG-2) entered the port of Poti. They will conduct joint exercises with boats of the Georgian Coast Guard.

The Canadian frigate HMCS Fredericton (FFH 337), the Italian frigate Virginio Fasan (F 591), the Romanian ROS Regina Maria (F 222) and the Bulgarian frigate BGS Verni (F 42) are now in the port of Poti, Interfax reports. The Turkish ship TCG Salihreis (F 246) will also join the exercises.

In connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, as was assured by the Georgian border police, a visit to the port of NATO ships is being carried out with all the recommendations of the World Health Organization on preventing the spread of the epidemic. The visit takes place without public and cultural events.

The exercise legend also provides only for ship manoeuvres without crew interaction. NATO flotilla will leave Georgian territorial waters on April 10, 2020.
