National Bank of Georgia issues new banknotes to commercial banks

The National Bank of Georgia issues new banknotes to commercial banks that will replace those withdrawn from circulation.

Since March 21 due to the threat of the spread of a new coronavirus, old banknotes are placed in the cash centre and stored separately, in a specially allocated place for 14 days.

Regarding hand-to-hand cash, epidemiologists recommend using a hot iron or disinfectant.

«Studies confirm that the bill can become a source of infection, like any other item: a plastic bag, a door handle, an ATM keyboard and a cart in a store. Be careful. Let’s follow recommendations of professionals and make the most of contactless and remote payment systems», said National Bank Of Georgia on Facebook.

Also, the National Bank published photos of the work of its employees in the repository, where the banknotes that were in circulation were quarantined for two weeks.

The National Bank notes that it constantly consults with the central banks of Europe and shares its experience on the money quarantine.
