The Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Protection Troops of the Russian Armed Forces are being transferred to the self-proclaimed republic of Abkhazia to help combat the coronavirus, reports Interfax.
“The units of the Black Sea Fleet will help to combat the spread of coronavirus in the Republic of Abkhazia. At present, a convoy of 13 special vehicles, including mobile aerosol disinfection complexes, ARS-14M filling stations and TMS-65U heat engines with a jet engine, is marching from the Crimean peninsula to the Republic of Abkhazia,” the press service said.
It is reported that upon arrival, a temporary fleet of vehicles and special treatment facilities will be built. Then, Russian specialists, together with Abkhazian doctors, will evaluate the amount of work ahead and begin disinfection.
By this time, three cases of coronavirus infection have been confirmed in Abkhazia. The first case was recorded on March 30, and the second on April 6, the third on April 11. Since March 28, by the decision of the Abkhazian authorities, a state of emergency was declared in the republic.
A field hospital has been built on the territory of the Russian military base in Abkhazia.
